There 's a glimmer of hope for the Republican party after all. One of their members is Ron Paul, representative from Texas who has excited many voters with his novel ideas while campaigning for the office of president. It is no wonder that he has won financial support from many because he proposes to abolish the IRS and close down those many costly military bases we have spread all over the world. The United States supports about 550,000 troops in 163 countries and it is breaking our piggy bank.
"Why do we need 30,000 troops in South Korea?....they have been there since I was in high school," he said. The same is true in Germany, Japan and a host of other countries at a cost that is frightening. We are going bankrupt trying to police the world and we are slaves to the military industrial complex that seems to have an unsavory hold on the minds of those in the white house.
Paul wants to bring our boys home and the idea resonates with the voters. Money is pouring into his campaign from many who feek the same . The Bush boys have spent more than a trillion dollars in Iraq and they want to continue spendding until the president's term expires at the end of 2008. According to Paul a withdrawal now does not mean chaos would erupt in Iraq. In fact, he believes violence would calm down if we leave the middle east. Americans are not wanted in Muslim land. By our presence we have created the violence we detest. Paul says we should try to imagine how Americans would feel is another country invaded our land and tried to manage our affairs at the point of a gun.
Americans seen to have a penchant for settling disputes with weapons. Paul point to the Civil War in which we killed 600,000 Americans over the slavery issue. "It would have been better to have purchased the slaves and set them free," he said.
Should Paul be elected the federal oversight of our education system would be abolished and returned to local govenments. Big brother would be reduced in size back to the original intent of our founding fathers, with strict adherance to the Constitution.
Perhaps the warning issued by Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia over the continued violations of the Constitution has resonated enough to penetrate the congealed minds of some Republicans. The IRS was founded in 1903, a vehicle not envisioned by the leading leaders of our early history. The loss os revenue from the IRS demise would be recouped by economies in government such as downsizing the massive bureaucratic mess in Washington. Yes, Ron Paul offers us a glimmer of hope.
oh, good grief! he's a freekin' libertarian AND he's pro-life! maybe biden's not such a bad idea after all. ;)
