I like John McCain, but his choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate for the vice presidency of the United States strikes me as a cynical attempt to divert attention from his age. She is young and attractive and brings energy to the platform, something McCain does not have. McCain is 72 years old. Life expectancy in the U.S. for adult males is 77.9. Considering the ravages his body has experienced as a war prisoner and the protracted recovery process when he was released, it seems likely that his life expectancy may be cut short. In other words, it is possible should they be elected, that Palin would be president next year, or the next....something I do not like to think about. Putting lipstick on a pit bull does not qualify one to manage the affairs of this great nation.
During McCain's many public appearances lately I have observed him labor on the campaign trail with shortness of breath and weary countenance. Many of his speeches are monotones, presented with clenched teeth to mask the slight waver in his voice. He is too old for the job and having a neophite waiting in the wings is not a good choice.
Sarah Palin may be a good candidate a few years from now when she has seasoned, but not this time. When I hear debate and comments from the general public I worry that we Americans make choices based more on heart than reason. Thie is the most important election we will ever experience in our lifetime. Don't blow it.
that's right . . . don't blow it . . . vote obama! :)
