Understanding ourselves
The key to understanding eternal life may be hiding in our computer-like brains. If we can log on to the system that has been contrived over millions of evolutionary years we may emerge as a species that can survive. Scientists tell us that the development of humans began in the most elementary stages. In fact, we are a relatively new organism on this planet. Our life span can be compared to a mere blip inthe measurement of time.
While we anguish over the mysteries of life, searching for answers, our brain reachiing down deep into compilations of information, we somehow arrive at conclusions that defy facts. We invent explanations to satisfy our hunger for knowledge. For example, religion was devised over an painful period of time to give simple folks an explanation that could be easily understood. Rules and regulations, such as the bible and koran, were studiously written, edited and copied by thousands of scribes over many years. It seemed like the right thing to do because it taught us many elementary ways to get along with our fellowmen. Unfortunately, the attempt has failed because we still maim and murder each other with stunning regularity, often in defense of one relegion over another. Oh, the irony of it all !
Upon reflection, we must admit that religious dogma has not provided us with the protection we seek, or the reality of survival. It has been about effective as placing a band aid on a virus. In order to better understand ourselves We should look deeper into our minds and reflect on the meaning of life and the consequences of our actions in dealing with others. In simple terms, we are born, we live and we die. Most humans do not like to admit that that death is the end of existence. We like to imaagine that we have a greater role in this world and that somehow we will live forever in eternal paradise if we follow the rules. That is the promise the scribes have written for our hope and satisfaction. But if we observe the constant evolution that has been going on over millions of years we must admit that our role is limited to a brief period of time while we invent more ways to destroy ourselves.
